Lemoore CA - With six boring one-sided boxing fights, fans were finally treated to some action once the MMA bouts began. Let me correct that, the first nights boxing match featured an upset victory but the rest were dull.
The MMA action began with rear naked choke victory for the Japanese fighter Kengo "Cra-Ken" Ura over Bakersfield's Doug Hunt. The fight started off with some bang as both exchanged strikes with Hunt looking to take it down early but Kengo had some good ground defense. At 2:44 into the first round Kengo was able to sink in the submission.
The next bout showcased a hard nose puncher in Sarah Kaufman who improved her record to 8-0 with 8 KO's with a second round TKO stoppage over Sarah "White Tiger" Schneider at 1:43 into the fight.
Going the distance was the "Battle of the Sergios" with Sergio Cortez of Huron battling it out against Sergio Quinones of Lemoore. After three hard fought rounds Cortez was able to dominate on the ground and let go a relentless attack of elbows during the fight. This gave him the split decision win and the bragging rights in the first ever "Battle of the Sergios".
Enoch "The Animal" Wilson came away with a submission victory over the always energetic and fan-loved Shawn "Bang Bang" Bias. With the fight about even in the second round and Bias getting a takedown, "The Animal" scrambled on the ground to escape and found Shawns right leg. From here, Enoch tightened up the knee bar and won by tapout at 1:43 into the second round.
With the Main Event of the evening going all three rounds the former NCAA All-American wrestler Chad Mendes improved to 3-0 with a dominant victory over the former PFC Featherweight Champ Art "King Arthur" Arciniega. Mendes had great takedowns and a solid ground and pound that featured some of Urijah Faber's signature elbows. It seemed as if Art was gun shy and could never really get off any punches. It was a tough fight for both of them and we can not wait to see whats in store for either of them. If rumor has it right, Chad Mendes will be returning to the PFC in July.
